"Bridge in Honaker"

Part of my job involves working with historians documenting older tranportation structures in Virginia. This photo was taken while I was working with Mason Pawlett, our chief historian at the time, documenting some interesting railroad bridges in southwest Virginia. Mason's reason for posing with the umbrella was to indicate scale, but it adds a bit of surrealism to this photo. The relative smallness of the tunnel reflects the size of wagons and early automobiles.
